If you are a fan of games like Bejeweled or Tetris, then you
may get your latest game from Skype’s newest service. Speaking at Communications
Developer Conference Paul Amery, director of the Skype Developer Program
announced Skype’s Game Channel, a casual games portal which will enable enable
the third party developers to get access to their 2 million registered users.
“People are
increasingly using Skype to interact with one another, with many choosing to
play simple games like checkers or backgammon. However, the tremendous size of
Skype’s user-base makes it an ideal environment for multi-player and
community-based games in which people can play against or collaborate with one
another.”, said Paul Amery.
Skype’s Game Channel is created and operated by a Norwegian
company, called EasyBits Software. The service will be located within the Skype
Extras Manager, which provides a quick and easy way for developers to promote
their software to users.
“We hope the Skype Game Channel becomes a popular
entertainment destination within the Skype community. Our goal is to make it as
easy and profitable as possible for the developers, while keeping it simple and
fun for consumers to use,” Amery added.
Extras Manager was introduced in Skype 3.0 for Windows,
launched last year in December. According to Skype, since its intrpoduction,
Extras Manages was downloaded more than 18 millions times.
