Skiles Is Out, But Who Is In?

The Chicago Bulls announced on Monday that coach Scott Skiles will no longer be on Bulls bench, as a result of the negative record he managed to achieve this season with his team: 9-16, the third worst record in the Eastern Conference.

John Paxson, Bulls general manager, said in a statement: “This was a difficult decision to make, but one that was necessary at this time. Scott helped us in many ways during his time with the Bulls; most importantly, he helped this franchise get back to respectability. I am appreciative of his hard work and the imprint that he left on our team.”

This comes at a point when the teams goes through a rough time, and the fans are more than unhappy about their evolution.

Skiles came to replace Bill Cartwright in 2003, and went to 156-172 since. This season, the Bulls came to the third loss in the past four games, and join the New York Knicks and Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference hall of shame.

For the time being, no name has been given by Bulls representatives, so the future coach still remains unknown. The problem is that, whoever comes to the team, will have a tremendous job to do, and it will be anything but easy.

Sikes said in a news conference, following the Saturday loss against the Rockets: ''It's much like it's been at the beginning of the other seasons, but this is leaking past the beginning of the season. It's getting toward the middle of the season. That's what's concerning.''

What exactly lead to this whole situation? Well, first of all, the averages of players like Ben Wallace, Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich have consistently dropped since last year, the consequently lack of consistency in the games and a coach that couldn’t handle the situation. Who is going to take on the difficult challenge to bring the Bulls back on track? Bull’s officials made no disclosure on their future plans, so everything remains to be seen.
