It is difficult to do what your heart desires when you are a young star
like Miley Cyrus.
Apparently, everyone has expectations from the 15-year-old star of
Disney's "Hannah Montana," so she was condemned for daring to shoot
some Lolita-style photos for Vanity Fair.
After the famous magazine published a few photos of Cyrus covered in a
silver satin bedsheet, many parents were outraged, saying that their children
looked up to Cyrus as a role model and she should have set a better example for
them.
Debates concerning the photo occurred all over the internet and Disney
feared its Hannah Montana franchise could be affected, given the fact that
another motion picture is planned for 2009 and Cyrus also signed a book deal
with the Disney Book Group last week.
Cyrus, who initially expressed her enthusiasm for working with celebrity
photographer Annie Leibovitz, has now publicly apologized for the photo shoot. It's no wonder, with so much pressure put on her by everyone.
"I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic'
and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so
embarrassed," Cyrus said Sunday in a statement. "I never intended for
any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about."
A Disney spokeswoman, Patti McTeague, blamed Vanity Fair for
manipulating the 15-year-old girl in order to sell magazines.
But the magazine explained that Cyrus' parents were on the set during
the shooting and the teenager did nothing she should be ashamed of.
“Miley’s parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo
was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a
beautiful and natural portrait of Miley,” said Beth Kseniak, a spokeswoman for
Vanity Fair magazine and Ms. Leibovitz.
On its website, Vanity Fair also reveals several photos from the
shooting, which show a candid and smiling Cyrus, dressed in black trousers and
clutching a piece of satin fabric, while leaving her back bare.
Shortly after the photos were taken, Cyrus herself declared she was very
pleased with the photo shoot's result.
But it seems you cannot be a teenage star and be too sexy at the same
time…
Cyrus also had to apologize about the other set of photos that appeared
on the internet last week, which showed the teen revealing her bra. Cyrus declared
they were "silly, inappropriate shots," and expressed her
regret for having disappointed her fans.
