Shock: Nintendo Wii Sells 2 Million Units, Crushes Competition

We all know that in terms of sales Nintendo Wii is already a undisputable success, but the record set by the little console that could in November has surprised everyone.

According to the latest figures released by the NPD Group, the company which tracks the sales of gaming consoles in the United States, in November Nintendo sold 2.04 million Wiis, setting a new record in any month besides December. Last year, during the same period, Nintendo sold only 981,000 Wiis.

Nintendo’s achievement is nothing else by impressive, taking into account the economic downturn faced by the gaming industry.

Nintendo has another reason to celebrate as well, as its DS gaming handheld sold 1.56 million units during November.

In fact, Nintendo Wii was a best seller one month after another and it will be probably crowned as the best selling gaming console for the second year in a row.

As for Microsoft, its price cutting strategy has finally paid off. In November, the Redmond-based company sold 836,000 Xbox 360s, which is quite a record. In fact is the best month ever for Microsoft’s gaming platform.

Even in October last year when its sales were pushed by the release of Halo 3, Microsoft has managed to sell only 528,000 units. November was a record month for PlayStation 3 as well and Sony sold 378,000 units.
