Shatner Still Angry Over ‘Star Trek’ Snub

Actor William Shatner, the one and only Capt. James T. Kirk, hasn’t gotten over the fact that he won’t be reprising his career’s most important part in the new Star Trek prequel.

It’s been a couple of weeks since the new Star Trek reboot started shooting under JJ Abrahams’ helm, with Chris Pine filling the tight yellow jumper that once belonged to Shatner, but the 76-year-old actor isn’t pleased for being left out the cast.

Talking about how he is not a part of the upcoming movie, nor does he have any news on how the production is going, Shatner said in a recent video via LiveVideo that "Nobody has told me anything."

"Leonard [Nimoy] told me in a telephone conversation yesterday that filming has begun. I didn't know that," he continued, adding: "I met with J.J. Abrams a couple of times. And I don't know why, because as it turns out they weren't writing the Captain Kirk character into the script. So I don't know why I met with him."

Speaking forward in an interview with Extra TV, the actor didn’t try to conceal his disappointment over not being included in the movie.

"How could you not put one of the founding figures into a movie that was being resurrected? That doesn't make sense to me!" he asked.

Arguing that his role on "Boston Legal" and spots for Priceline.com commercials have made him more of a star now than when he was on "Star Trek," the actor concluded: "I've become even more popular than I was playing Capt Kirk - I'm good box office and I get publicity," he added.

While Shatner was not included in the movie, Abrahams reportedly offered a small role to Leonard Nimoy, who played Vulcan Spock for years in the franchise. Shatner didn’t seem too delight upon hearing the news, and said at the time, "I'm not in the movie at all. Leonard, God bless his heart, is in, but not me."

So far, details about the movie, which is set for a Christmas 2008 release, have been kept well under wraps but it will reportedly take the Enterprise crew back to their early days at Starfleet Academy.
