Shannen Doherty will star in several episodes of the CW’s
90210 spinoff this fall, said Gabe Sachs, the executive producer of the series,
during the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills on
Saturday.
“Shannen is looking forward to returning to 90210,”
Doherty’s rep told People magazine.
Doherty, who was the twin sister of Jason Priestley’s
character Brandon Walsh in the original Beverly
Hills, 90210, will play the role of Brenda Walsh
again, starting with September 2, when the show premieres.
This time, she will be a famous theater director who is
invited back to West
Beverly Hills High
School in order to stage a musical, CW announced.
When asked by E! News whether Shannen will be singing or
dancing in the series, executive producer Jeff Judah said: “It’s possible. It’s
possible.”
When she left the original series in 1994, Doherty said the
decision was mutual with the producer and admitted she had a “miserable”
behavior on the set. At the time, she was famous for her brawls.
Jennie Garth is also returning to her old role, as Kelly
Taylor, who is now a school guidance counselor, on “90210.”
Tori Spelling is at the moment exhausted from giving birth
to her baby in June and will not appear in the pilot of the spin-off as
planned, but she said she would be on the show when she is ready. She will
impersonate an upscale boutique-owner.
So far, the three actresses are the only ones from the
original series who have confirmed to appear in the new show. The producers
haven’t yet spoken with the other members of the former cast.
Gabe Sachs said the three original cast members will not
only have cameos, but will star in multiple episodes.
