Shortly after the news of Shania Twain's split from her husband Robert John "Mutt" Lange broke, he opened up about the "private matter" in an exclusive interview with People magazine.
Following the statement released by Twain's rep saying that she and her husband, music producer Robert "Mutt" Lange, decided to part ways after 14 years of marriage, Lange, who is known for keeping away from the spotlight, shed some light upon the reasons which caused the separation.
Although Twain's statement asked for privacy calling the breakup "a private matter," Lange said it was "unfortunate" that things happened this way, and explained that they simply grew apart, "that's all," he said.
According to sources from the singer's entourage, Twain is reportedly "devastated" over the breakup because it happened so unexpectedly.
"She's getting through it with a very close-knit group of family and friends," People quoted a source as saying.
Twain, 42, and Lange, 59, famed for his work with such metal acts as AC/DC and Def Leppard, and who produced the singer's three blockbuster albums, which have each sold more than 10 million copies in the United States, got married in 1993 after meeting over the telephone. They have a 6-year-old son name Eja.
