The flirty and independent ladies of "Sex and the City"
surely do have a lot of fans. Women in Silicon Valley
have long bought every ticket in every movie theatre in the area almost as soon
as they have been made available.
Fans of the TV show just could not wait for the movie to be released, and the
producers have made them a surprise, scheduling the first screening at
midnight, which is actually something that is expected to happen for popcorn
movies.
What is interesting is the fact that the film is about to become some sort of a
sociological phenomenon. Some of the women don’t just go to the movie. They
make it the highlight of their night out, mixing it in a series of activities
like going to bars and flirting with men.
There are also men that have bought tickets for the film, but the real targets
of the producers were educated, spirited and independent women from the middle
class. And they have nailed it. Of course, it is unlikely to have the
box-office success that "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"
had, but for a movie targeting a niche audience it is very possible to do very
good.
The film has also had an advance screening to benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles.
With this occasion $20,000 were raised, as VIP tickets went for as much as $80.
The screening was hosted by Skyy Vodka, which invited the guests to an after
party where cocktails bearing the name of the movie’s characters where served.
