A man arrested for trying to arrange a rendezvous with a 15-year-old girl on the Internet
wants to become mayor of Wilmer, a small town in Texas.
The 42-year-old man whose profile doesn’t exactly match on of a mayor is James Brian Sliter. He was put under arrest for the above mentioned deed in 2004. four years ago, he was expecting to meet a young girl at a previously-arranged place, but instead, the local police threw him a “surprise party”.
However, Sliter says that he wants to redeem himself and prove that he can be an asset to his suburban Dallas community.
"People need to realize that people make mistakes, and they need to look past those mistakes and forgive and move on. I'm not asking anybody to condone what I did," Sliter told Dallas television station KTVT.
In 2004, the man was charged with attempted sexual assault of a child and placed on 10 years probation, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The case will eventually be dismissed if he stays out of trouble.
Nevertheless, Sliter wasn’t convicted so he’s eligible to run for office.
He said he has the support of many of his friends and family to run for mayor of the small suburban town of about 3,400
The town’s current mayor, Don Hudson, isn’t exactly happy with his future rival and said that if Sliter becomes Wilmer’s new mayor it would put a stigma on the city.
