If there is one person in this world who knows what it’s
like to be 17, famous and pregnant – as Bristol Palin’s recently revealed
status, then it is Jamie Lynn Spears, who has also empathetically held out a
hand to the young daughter of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
Bristol Palin’s pregnancy has sparked a multitude of
discussions, opinions and late night jokes on TV but there is support for the
young mom-to-be as well.
Take Jamie Lynn Spears, the 17-year-old sister of pop star
Britney Spears, who gave birth to daughter Maddie Briann Aldridge on June 19.
The father is Casey Aldridge, who she has been engaged to since March.
Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin announced this week
that her 17-year-old daughter is five months pregnant and intends to marry the
father of the baby, 18-year-old Levi Johnston.
Jamie Lynn Spears sent her fellow famous soon-to-be teen mom
a gift symbolizing her support and sympathy. Bristol thus received pink burp cloths worth
$60 and a heartfelt message.
Petit Tresor, the Los
Angeles baby boutique from which the considerate gift
was bought, told ABCNews.com through a spokesperson that the package was
accompanied by a card which read, “Dear Bristol, Hang in there… xxoo, Jamie
Lynn Spears.”
Jamie Lynn may not have written the card herself, though it
is safe to assume she thought out the message herself, but the specific order
for Plain Mary burp cloths was made by phone on behalf of Nickelodeon’s “Zoey
101” star.
Sarah Palin’s statement regarding her adolescent daughter’s
pregnancy was an emotional one, in which she professed the family’s support of
the young couple and discreetly appealed to the public’s understanding of the
difficult situation.
“Bristol
came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than
we had ever planned,” Palin said, adding that the girl would have the family’s
“unconditional love and support” as she “faces the responsibilities of
adulthood.”
Palin pledged the entire family’s “love and support” once
more as she said, “Bristol
and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the
difficulties of raising a child.”
The Palin family only welcomed another baby in April, when
the 44-year-old Alaska
governor gave birth to son Trig. She has three more children, son Track, 19,
and daughters Willow,
13 and Piper, 7.
