Although nothing is confirmed yet, Seth Rogen opened up to
Hollywood.com about the project he is planning together with co-writer Evan Goldberg:
“The Green Hornet” movie.
Rogen said he was still considering starring in Sony’s 21st
century update of the film. Sony has not yet hired a director for the film that
is due in theaters on June 25, 2010.
Rogen told Hollywood.com that he wasn’t 100 percent sure if
the movie was going to be made but that he and Goldberg “had been getting good
indicators lately and we’ve heard that they really like the first draft that
we’ve turned in.”
The “Knocked Up” star will play the role of Britt Reid, a
bored playboy who inherits his father newspaper and then, having nothing else
better to do, decides to fight crimes with his sidekick Kato, who was remarkably
played in the 60’s TV show by Bruce Lee.
Rogen confessed to ComingSoon.net
that the film was going to be PG-13 rated. As it’s an action movie, “you can do anything violence wise,” he said.
Other actors who will star in the movie were not officially revealed,
but Rogen said the team would love to have Stephen Chow or Jet Li in the role
of Kato.
“At first actually, we weren't
even sure going in we could be more of a Jet Li type guy who maybe isn't the
funniest guy in the world, but he's physically very impressive, or whether it
would be more of a Stephen Chow type guy who can do martial arts, but clearly
has a sense of humor.”
Rogen said they eventually decided
a guy like Stephen Chow would be more suitable for the role of Kato, but
nothing is official yet. He also admitted he and his co-writer were not
thinking about the budget when they wrote the script. They wrote it exactly as
they wanted it to be.
Even though he is more famous for
his comedic roles, Rogen says action movies were always his favorites. He
happily recalls films he watched and enjoyed as a child, such as “Die Hard” or “Total
Recall.”
“With 'Green Hornet' it's our goal
to show people action that they haven't quite seen before,” the actor revealed.
