A second stop-work order was issued for Donald Trump’s SoHo skyscraper after a “hoisting device broke free and
shattered glass on three floors due to high winds Saturday.”
According to Buildings Department officials, a cable at the
Trump project came loose during heavy winds and struck the north side of the
tower about 10 p.m. Saturday. About a dozen windows were cracked and glass
rained down on the street, the New York Daily News reported. No injuries were
reported.
Therefore, the department issued a stop-work order and cited
contractor Bovis Lend Lease. Bovis spokesperson Mary Costello said in a statement
that “after a large wind gust last night, Bovis personnel on duty at the
project immediately inspected the site and identified a few broken panes of
glass, which were removed as a precautionary measure.”
Bovis was also cited for building code violations at the
project in January after a construction worker fell more than 40 stories to his
death. Work at Trump SoHo had only resumed on February 24.
Trump SoHo was not the only
place affected by high winds. Almost 75 percent of the scaffolding fell outside
the Superior Ink condo development at 469
West 12th Street in the Village on Saturday night
