The huge box office success of this year’s “Sex And The
City: The Movie” has determined the HBO execs to consider a new movie based on
the adventures of the four New York
socialites.
HBO programming president Michael Lombardo has confirmed the
news on Thursday during a press conference.
“Everybody associated with that project was really heartened
by the enthusiasm from fans, so absolutely — there’s a lot of energy behind
thinking about another ‘Sex and the City’ movie,” he said for reporters. Unfortunately,
no date was given. “As for when the film
might materialize, I can’t say,” Lombardo added.
Lombardo’s statement was confirmed by HBO co-president
Richard Plepler in an interview for People.
"Everybody came away feeling very excited by [the first
film's] quality and its success, so that always invites the possibility of a
continuation," he said.
Rleased this May, “Sex And The City: The Movie” the movie earned
$57 million in its first weekend and it was the best box office debut of a film
whose main character is a woman.
Starting off in present times, not where it left off four
years ago, the movie finds Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her three gal
pals, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Charlotte (Kristin
Davis) at crossroads.
Carrie is engaged to Mr. Big and planning a major New York wedding.
Miranda is trying to work out a balance between her family life and career.
Samantha relocated to Los Angeles to be with Smith,
her boy toy, who became a TV star in the meantime, while Charlotte is happily married to Harry and the
mother of their adopted daughter Lily.
The "Sex and the City" movie had a $65 million
budget and is written and directed by Michael Patrick King. It runs 135 minutes
and is distributed by New Line Cinema and HBO Films.
