Some would advice us to buy the DVD set box of “Lost” as to be able to watch and understand season five of the famous TV series. It seems that this new season, which starts tonight on ABC with a three-hour premiere including the clip-show and two back-to-back new episodes, is just for fans.
And it’s only for the fans that have waited eight long months to see how the survivors of “Lost” who have left the island feel the eager need to go back. Yet, season five comes back also with the chance to freshen up some memories of the labyrinthine plots which revolve around the TV series’ cast.
Last season ended with the island being swollen by a big and bright light. The evil genius Ben Linus, interpreted by Michael Emerson, has tried all along season four to move the island as to protect it from the industrialist Charles Widmore, played by Alan Dale. Many would have wondered: how to move an entire island? But Ben meant it and he achieved his goal by turning a huge wooden wheel in a cavern deep beneath the island.
This, of course, made it a little bit harder for Jack Shepard, interpreted by Matthew Fox, and his company to return. So Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Sun and Aaron, together with Jack have now lost their destinies in a place they can’t find anymore. And they leave in search of their lost lives bringing John Locke’s dead body with them.
Yet, in May, 2007, Stephen McPherson, the ABC Entertainment President, stated that “Lost” will get to its end around 2009-2010 and it will strike the audience with an unexpected end. He added that this was the way he considered to give the series “a proper creative conclusion.”
