Seagate announced its new line of FreeAgent external hard
drive solutions for Fall 2008, a new generation of products that includes both
desktop and mobile options for Mac and Windows operating systems.
FreeAgent Go is among the company’s top offerings, as one of
the slimmest external drives available on the market today, which includes
advanced shock and vibration protection in a small casing with a height of only
12.5 mm.
In addition to that, FreeAgent Go is also the first external
drive with a docking option, offering a practical solution without cables for
people who are on the road, in addition to the 500GB of capacity, the company
explained.
“With the amount of content being created and consumed
today, the average broadband household will soon need close to a terabyte of
storage,” Jane Shields, research analyst at Park Associates explained. “With
Seagate’s coupling of high-capacity, reliable and easy-to-use solutions with
attractive designs, the company is helping more people to enjoy the benefits
that come with backup and sharing of their digital media.”
Seagate informed that the FreeAgent Go desktop docking
station will be sold separately. Free Agent Go will be available in several
color options, including the popular silver, black, but also red and blue. Furthermore, the drive will come with a USB 2.0 travel cable.
In addition to the FreeAgent Go, Seagate also introduced the
FreeAgent Desk and FreeAgent XTreme drives, two 3.5-inch high capacity desktop
solutions with 1.5 Terabytes of storage.
Seagate introduced the second-generation FreeAgent storage
solution offerings one year after first introducing them to the market. As Pat
King, senior vice president of Seagate’s consumer Solutions Division explained,
the new FreeAgent storage solutions take an extra step toward providing an
easy-to-use technology in a consumer-friendly package.
