Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson and Canadian actor Ryan
Reynolds inconspicuously tied the knot this weekend in the groom’s hometown of Vancouver, B.C.
Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds took their relationship
to the next level this past weekend, called some close friends and their
families and became husband and wife during a very discrete ceremony at a
resort outside Vancouver, British Columbia.
Johansson, 23, and Reynolds, 31, started dating last year
and have been extremely discreet about their relationships. No public outings
together, no splashy appearances at events, no gushing to the media.
Not only did they not gush to the media, they hardly said
anything about their relationship. Johansson told the Associated Press last month
that she and her fiancé - they had become engaged in spring – were “just
enjoying our time.”
She also said that at her young age of 23, she feels no need
to rush into things and that she is simply savoring her youth and happiness.
The actress further said no date had been set for a wedding.
She and Reynolds became engaged in May, again with uttermost
discretion. Therefore, it was only fitting that their wedding would be secret
too. Us Weekly reported on its website Sunday that the happy couple had become
spouses during a small wedding Saturday whose guests included Johansson’s
mother, Melanie Sloan, and her brother, Adrian Johansson.
Publicist Meredith O’Sullivan confirmed the reports Monday
to several media outlets, without offering further details that could quench
the public’s curiosity.
This is the first marriage for both actors.
Reynolds was previously engaged to Canadian singer Alanis
Morissette. Their 5-year relationship ended in early February 2007. Alanis
Morissette has since expressed her appreciation for Reynolds in interviews,
wishing him and his new love the best of luck.
Johansson was previously linked with Justin Timberlake and
Josh Hartnett, among other celebrities, but she has always been tight lipped
about her personal life.
The child actor rose to fame in 1998, when she starred in
the Robert Redford-directed drama “The Horse Whisperer.” She has meanwhile
successfully made the transition to being viewed as a professional actress,
having appeared in such critically acclaimed films as “Lost in Translation,”
“Girl with a Pearl Earring,” or “A Love Song for Bobby Long.”
Her recent projects include starring in “The Other Boleyn
Girl,” alongside Natalie Portman, and in the Woody Allen directed film “Vicky
Christina Barcelona” (her third collaboration with the veteran filmmaker, after
“Match Point” and “Scoop”) and releasing her first studio album, “Anywhere I
Lay My Head,” which has generated interesting reactions among music critics.
Johansson’s husband of nearly two days has made a name for
himself in Hollywood
as well. He gained attention for his role in the sitcom “Two Guys and a Girl”
in the late 1990s and has starred in films such as “The Amityville Horror,” “Smokin'
Aces,” with Ben Affleck and Andy Garcia, “The Nines,” and the recently-released
romantic comedy “Definitely, Maybe,” with Rachel Weisz.
He next appears in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” alongside
Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber and in “The Proposal,” opposite Sandra Bullock.
Hugh Jackman, who has worked with Johansson as well, in “The
Illusionist,” told People magazine earlier this year that he gave his heartfelt
blessings to the happy couple. Then again, who wouldn’t?
