Newlywed actress Scarlett Johansson managed to be both thoughtful and disgusting at the same time by offering a piece of her to be auctioned on eBay.
Joining some of the weirdest and most disgusting celebrity auctions, Scarlett Johansson found an easy way to raise some money for charity by giving away a used tissue of hers while a guest on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" earlier this week.
Plagued by what she called a "celebrity cold," the 24-year-old actress blew her nose on a tissue which ended up on eBay for her really devoted fans to fight over. The proceeds will go to the charity of her choice, USA Harvest, a hunger relief charity.
Explaining where she got the cold from, Johansson told Leno in a nasal voice that she has Samuel L. Jackson's cold after they went on a "European press extravaganza" for their movie "The Spirit." She said that she almost "didn’t want to lose" the cold and felt like it was "valuable in some way," which is where she got the idea to auction it in the first place.
"I feel like I could sell it on eBay," she said, then went ahead and blew her snot into the fabric tissue, despite being slightly reluctant about the whole thing.
"This is Sam Jackson’s cold, so bid high. This is for USA Harvest, which is a wonderful organization," she announced. After she was done with the tissue which also contained visible traces of lipstick and blush, Leno pulled out a ziplock bag to stash the rag in and had the actress sign it.
So far, the auction which closes on Monday, December 22 at 9:35 p.m. PST, has 60 bids and reached $2,025.
"We’re feeding people, and we’re draining my sinuses!" she laughed. "It’s a good thing."
Other celebrities who had personal belongings auctioned on eBay include Britney Spears, whose hair clippings which were collected after she shaved her head in 2007 attracted bids of over $1 million, Angelina Jolie whose hairbrush has also made it onto the site, as did Heath Ledger's costume from cowboy movie "Brokeback Mountain."
Johansson premiered her new movie, "The Spirit," on Wednesday. The new movie opens in theaters Christmas Day.
