A 9-year-old girl died Saturday after a horse dragged her
for a mile and a half, causing her to suffer a serious head injury.
Witnesses said Juliette Brown was horseback riding with her
father near Lake Benbrook on Saturday night, when she opened a can of soda,
terribly scaring the horse. When the horse jumped, the girl fell off its back
and was dragged.
A helicopter ambulance took her to
Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth, where she died of a severe head
wound.
Friends and family gathered at the
Browns’ house Sunday afternoon to offer support to the family and show their
sympathy.
Ana Brown, Juliette’s mother, said
her daughter was sweet and caring. She loved to sing and dance and entertain
others, especially her younger brothers and sisters.
Molly Thomson, the owner of
Benbrook Stables where the accident happened, said a memorial fund will be set
up at the Wells Fargo branch in Benbrook, where donations will be accepted to
help the family pay for funeral costs, The Dallas Morning News reports.
Police are currently investigating
the accident. They said they did not find out what type of riding gear Juliette
was wearing at the time.
