For more than two decades, October is National Breast Cancer
Awareness Month. The annual health campaign was created in 1985 in an attempt
to fight breast cancer, increase awareness of the disease and also raise funds
for research into its cause, prevention and treatment.
The pink ribbon is an internationally recognized symbol of
responsiveness and understanding and, thus, throughout Breast Cancer Awareness
Month, the ribbon becomes a part of everybody who wants to do something about
the terrible illness.
Over the years, numerous companies have conceived “pink”
products, such as make-up, bags, jewelry and shirts, and made them available
during this time of year.
And as October approaches its finale, women who have
survived cancer, advocates, as well as friends and family members are welcomed
to prove their support and encouragement for discovering a cure by taking part
in various activities, including marathons and… toasts.
You can attend Pink Ribbon Wines’ countrywide “Toast to the
Cure” on October 30 and purchase a special edition Chardonnay or Cabernet
Sauvignon.
The Pink Ribbon Wines label will donate a portion of the
profits to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
“With the Pink Ribbon Wines label, we are making a long-term
commitment to supporting the goal of finding a cure for breast cancer,” said
Bill Wade of Wade/Kerr Wine Company. “Breast Cancer Awareness Month will end,
but the effort to find a cure for this disease continues on,” he added.
The “Toast to the Cure” event features not only raised
glasses, but also the stories of people who managed to beat the disease and
other speeches.
Even if you have not decided yet in which activity to
participate, you still have time to put on something pink and do something
about breast cancer.
