The two young daughters of President-elect Barack Obama,
Sasha and Malia, have been invited to appear on the popular Disney Channel
series “Hannah Montana,” star Billy Ray Cyrus revealed this week.
Country singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus told Access
Hollywood in an interview that aired Monday that the country’s first daughters
have been invited to appear on the children’s television show “Hannah Montana.”
Sasha, 7, and Malia, 10, could take part in an episode around April, he said.
The actor would not provide further details though, saying
he had to “keep a secret.” He plays father to the main character in the series,
Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana, portrayed by his real life daughter Miley Cyrus.
Barack Obama has said in interviews that Malia is a big fan
of the show, which debuted in March 2006 on Disney Channel. Michelle Obama also
humorously revealed how big a fan Malia is of Disney, when invited on Jay Leno’s
show days before the election. Referring to Obama’s paid television ads which
ran on all major television networks before Nov. 4, Michelle Obama said Malia
had asked her father whether he would be interrupting “her” television.
When told her father had not bought time on Disney and
Nickelodeon, relieved, the 10-year-old just turned around and left the room.
“She was just like, ‘Don't mess with my TV,’” Michelle Obama told her host and
audience laughing.
It remains to be seen whether the country’s first couple
will allow their daughters to be exposed that much.
Miley Cyrus told Access Hollywood that it would still be
“cool” to have Sasha and Malia visit the set, should they choose not to appear
on the show.
