It has been said repeatedly that Tina Fey’s impersonation of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is so accurate, that people might mistake her for the real Republican Vice Presidential Candidate – the recorded laughter tapes might, however, give it away. Sarah Palin seldom commented on the Saturday Night Live spoofs.

There wasn’t much to say given that Tina Fey doesn’t invent lines, but merely exaggerates what Sarah Palin openly states in interviews and press conferences, which makes the spoofs both comedic and tragic at the same time.

In an attempt to show that she is not bothered by the sketches and even appreciates their entertainment value, Sarah Palin decided to make an appearance on Saturday Night Live. In the beginning of the show we see Tina Fey again, impersonating Sarah Palin at a mock press conference.

The camera shifts to the backstage area, where Lorne Michaels and the real Sarah Palin were analyzing the performance. Mark Wahlberg shows up, seemingly unhappy about a representation of him, followed by Alec Baldwin. The latter “mistakes” Palin for Fey and proceeds to bash the Governor to her face, bringing into discussion one of Palin’s media nicknames – Caribou Barbie. Baldwin goes up on stage near Fey and warns her about Palin.

The two women pass one another, exchanging places. Sarah Palin then says the SNL end line “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”. Critics seemed confused as to the purpose of her appearance, which could have been more entertaining if a dialogue between Fey and Palin were to happen. Political analysts thought this move was a mistake, as she didn’t seem to enjoy herself and wasn’t funny. All things considered, her appearance may in fact further damage her campaign.
