Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has become a grandmother. The daughter of the former vice presidential candidate has given birth to a son and his name is Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston.
Sarah Palin’s 18-year-old daughter, Bristol Palin, has given birth on Sunday in Palmer, Alaska. Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and “is fine and Bristol is doing well," according to Colleen Jones, the sister of Bristol's grandmother.
Sarah Palin’s governor office refused to release further information on this subject arguing that the baby’s birth was a private, family matter.
The baby’s father is Levi Johnston, a former hockey player at Alaska's Wasilla High School. The fact that Bristol was pregnant was made public by Sarah Palin three days after she was nominated as the Republican vice-presidential candidate in September. More precisely, she made the announcement on Sept. 1, the first day of the Republican National Convention.
Mrs. Palin, who opposes abortion, said at that time that her daughter will keep the baby and will get married. The wedding is scheduled for 2009.
"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family," said Mrs. Palin and her husband Todd.
When Mrs. Palin made public her the 17-year-old daughter’s pregnancy, there were concerns that it would damage her political image. However, the happening actually humanized her image, many observers said. The fact that 18-year-old Levi Johnston was the father was disclosed by his mother Sherry Johnston.
