Sarah Jessica Parker may soon be learning her lines for her first project after “Sex and the City,” as the star of Warner Bros.’ “The Ivy Chronicles,” set in… the City.
“The Ivy Chronicles” is based on Karen Quinn’s novel of the same name and has similarities with “The Devil Wears Prada” and “The Nanny Diaries,” says the Hollywood Reporter, as well as with Gigi Levangie Grazer’s “The Starter Wife.”
Sarah Jessica Parker is in talks with Warner Bros. to portray Ivy Ames, an Upper East Side woman who goes through the life-changing experiences of losing her successful job getting divorced, only to start a new chapter of her life from within the walls of a modest downtown apartment.
Ames finds inspiration through her children and becomes creative. She is forced to withdraw them from their expensive private school and comes up with the idea to start a business that aims to help upper-middle-class women get their children into elite kindergartens, per the HR.
Parker became a household name in the 1990s with her fashion-savvy, true love-searching character Carrie Bradshaw on the HBO series “Sex and the City.” The feature film released earlier this summer has earned more than $300 million worldwide.
“Sex and the City: The Movie” debuted at No. 1 in early June, with $55.7 million in domestic sales. Warner Bros. had anticipated something between $25 and $30 million in its opening weekend and instead celebrated almost double the figure: $55.7 million.
Other big screen projects Parker has undertaken have had mixed results at the box office. “Smart People,” a romantic comedy released in early April, earned a modest $10 million at the box office, despite an interesting cast which included Dennis Quaid, Thomas Haden Church and Ellen Page.
Then again, Parker has had reason to celebrate her box office results as well, considering that 2006’s “Failure to Launch,” another romantic comedy, this time opposite Matthew McConaughey, earned nearly $90 million domestically for Paramount.
