While recent studies showed that the high-definition TV market didn’t do well this year, Samsung launched a whole new series of TVs and, furthermore, the company’s plans for 2009 include a 10 percent sales increase.
Samsung intends to sell about 26 million TVs during 2009, according to a statement by the head of the company’s digital media division, Park Jong-woo. More specifically, the South-Korea-based company plans to sell 4 million units of plasma TVs and at least 22 million LCD TVs.
Today, at the Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas, Samsung highlighted a new series of LED-backlit LCD TVs, called Luxia.
The Luxia LCDs are the high-end range of Samsung TVs now. All models feature sleek design, high-quality display with the newest technologies and low-power consumption technology. However, the LNXXB8000 model has the most impressive feature. Its Auto Motion Plus gives the TV 240Hz refresh rate, which is four times more than a regular LCD TV.
The second model, the LNXXB700, will sport the Touch of Color display, which offers crystal clear picture, rich colors and high dynamic contrast ratios. Moreover, the TV features the Auto Motion Plus technology, offering a 120Hz refresh rate.
While the 700 and the 800 models impress through their hardware and features, the LNXXB600 won the CES 2009 Eco-Design Award. The LCD uses 40 percent less power than a conventional LCD and sports a power consumption indicator.
All models will feature Yahoo’s widget platform and will support streaming content from the internet directly on the TV screen, without any additional hardware. Furthermore, Luxia models are 0.6 inches thick, more than two times slimmer than their competitors are.
