Samsung Prepares The Release Of Its New Memoir Phone

Through a partnership with carrier T-Mobile, Samsung announced the upcoming release of its new touchscreen mobile phone SGH – T929, which also goes by the name of Memoir. The device will bring a first on the mobile market, being equipped with an 8 megapixel camera with Xenon Flash.

The device will provide a full HTML browser, a 240 x 400 pixels touchscreen display (262k TFT), a virtual QWERTY keyboard, a TouchWiz interface with customizable widgets, GPS for navigation and location based services, a microSD slot to allow storage capacity expansion, and several other multimedia features. It will be 3G/EDGE/GPRS data access speeds compatible and will include Wireless Stereo Bluetooth 2.0 technology. It was designed to run on T-Mobile’s growing 3G network.

Users will be able to take full advantage of the powerful camera, which features a 16x digital zoom, as the phone will allow direct uploads to online services such as Photobucket, Flickr or Kodak gallery. It will also provide five shooting modes, including a video recording feature.

The company did not mention the scheduled release date and also did not comment on the price of the mobile phone. Some believe that the device will be priced over the 5 megapixel Behold, which is available for $399.99 or $149.99 with a two year contract.

Memoir is expected to boost T-Mobile’s position in the high-end camera phone segment, significantly above other US carriers.
