A woman from Minnesota who was in her 80s died because of the United States outbreak of salmonella, thus raising the death toll to seven people. According to a spokesman for the Minnesota Department of Health, she had been living in a long-time care facility. The woman’s name and death date haven’t been released, but she was the third dead person connected to salmonella.

Many products containing peanut butter were believed to have caused the outbreak and they were recalled from the market. The United States government is now thoroughly investigating the outbreak of salmonella food poisoning, but the spokesman who talked about the woman’s death didn’t know whether she had eaten peanut butter or not.

The federal officials announced on Wednesday that Peanut Corp of America’s Blakely from Georgia was the only source of the United States salmonella outbreak which involved contaminated peanut butter. The Peanut Corp produces the peanut butter to be distributed in nursing homes and cafeterias but it also makes concentrated product to be used in commercially foods, such as cookies, candies or ice cream.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that as much as 125 products containing peanut butter, such as crackers, cookies, ice cream or even pet food have been recalled due to their connection to the outbreak.

Starting the past Wednesday, at least 491 people have been reported by the public health officials as being infected by the salmonella outbreak in 43 states of the 50 in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s web site.

Salmonella could kill very young and very old people by causing abdominal pains, diarrhea and fever.
