Salma Hayek was very impressed by an African woman’s story from Sierra Leone who could not breastfeed her baby so the actress decided to breastfeed the little one herself.
42-year-old Hayek was still weaning her daughter, Valentina, when she offered to replace the newborn’s mother for a while just to feed him. She said she still had a lot of milk left and the baby was very hungry so she did not think twice. She added that she was very happy and impressed to see that the little one instantly stopped crying as he felt the nourishment and peacefully fell asleep.
Salma did this wonderful thing so naturally that it makes us all wonder. How and why is it unusual to breastfeed other people’s children? Is it wrong, especially if those children might be sick or very poor? It looks like Hayek’s left breast has helped humanity more than most of us had in our entire lives.
The only thing the actress has questioned about regarding her act was whether it meant being disloyal to her own daughter by giving her milk away. But she is definitely not sorry for helping that poor African baby; moreover, she said she would encourage her child to be generous as well. Apparently this quality is traditional in the Oscar-nominee’s family, for she revealed that her great-grandmother did exactly the same thing in a Mexican Village when she encountered a woman who had no more milk to feed her baby.
What Salma Hayek did was quite impressive and hopefully people will take her example more. There are so many children who need help and giving them a hand would not even cost us much trouble but it would probably mean saving their lives at some point.
