Salma Hayek called off her engagement with French business
Francois-Henri Pinault, her representative said on Friday.
"We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek
and Francois-Henri Pinault has been canceled. There will be no further
comment," Cari Ross, Hayek's spokeswoman, said in a statement.
Hayek, 41, and Pinault, 46, announced their engagement in
March 2007, a few months before their baby girl Valentina Paloma Pinault was
born. It was the first child for Hayek, who later said that she went through a
very difficult pregnancy, and the third child for the businessman, who owns
Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga, among other luxury brands. Pinault
has two other children from a previous marriage that ended that ended in 2004.
Pinault and Hayek were expected to get married in a $3.5
million wedding next spring.
Professionally, things are going well for the Mexican
actress, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role as artist Frida Kahlo in
the 2002 film “Frida.” She is one of the executive producers of ABC’s series
“Ugly Betty” and has performed in several episodes of the show.
In April 2007, Hayek was appointed as the CEO of Ventanazul,
a production company she formed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc, which will focus
on Latin-themed material. As announced, Ventazul has to produce and acquire
between two and four Latin-themed films per year for MGM.
