Salesforce.com, the company that offers Software-as-a-Service
(SaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions, launched its Dreamforce 2008
conference today, in what they called the cloud computing event of the year.
The conference is expected to gather thousands of attendees,
hundreds of speakers, experts and partners, who will witness SaaS and PaaS
plans for next year. This will include Force.com, which “reinvents the
traditional development, deployment and distribution of any business
application with Platform-as-a-Service.”
Force.com was designed to help developers, partners and
customers create Web applications on demand, without needing a special
infrastructure, and deploy them worldwide as a service. “it’s all about
computing in the ‘cloud’,” the company said.
Salesforce.com explained that Force.com allows users to create
applications that can then be easily shared, exchanged and installed with just
a few clicks through the company’s AppExchange service, which is continuously
expanding, offering services to the entire on-demand community.
The enterprise cloud computing company already serves the
needs of over 47,000 enterprises and 1.1 million subscribers, and is now
looking to redefine Customer Relationship Management (CRM) in the era of
cloud computing, as George Hu, executive vice president Marketing,
Applications, and Customer Service, said.
Salesforce.com has often reinforced the idea that cloud
computing is extremely beneficial, and as a consequence of that, has now
officially launched the Force.com Sites technology, allowing customers to
expand CRM applications through interactive Web-to-lead forms.
As today’s businesses rely on efficient models to share and
collaborate, Salesforce.com comes to meet their needs and help them collaborate
entirely online, delivering the same speed, access and efficiency of the Web,
the company said.
Sign ups for Force.com Sites are available as of today in
