This
weekend, the “Saturday Night Live” show served its audience a helping hand of
Tina Fey’s performance of vice-presidential candidate for the Republican Party
Sarah Palin.
The “Weekend
Update” sketch also featured Queen Latifah, in the role of the moderator of the
vice-presidential debate that took place on Thursday, October 2, and “SNL” cast
member Jason Sudeikis, who portrayed Senator Joseph R. Biden. The latter, an United States Senator from
Delaware, has been nominated by the Democratic Party to run for vice-president,
thus rendering him Palin’s counter-candidate. The debate on October 2 was moderated
by PBS journalist Gwen Ifill and it was the first one in 24 years to feature a
female candidate.
On Sunday, a clip of the „SNL” sketch that was posted on
nbc.com reached approximately 1 million views.
On the same day, Nielsen Media Research revealed that the
show had rated an average 7.4 within its air-time, which translates as an
increase by 42 percent in the metered markets from last season’s fourth episode.
„Saturday Night Live” has been on a winning streak with
audiences since it started walking on the political satire road, taking on
Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin.
Nevertheless, the show has definitely struck gold with Tina
Fey’s interpretation of the latter political figure, Fey portraying Palin for the third episode on Saturday.
CNN political analyst Gloria Borger informed that the
tongue-in-cheek irony was not aimed only at Palin, Gwen Ifill and Joseph R. Biden getting their fair share of being made fun of by
some spot-on remarks of Queen Latifah and Jason Sudeikis.
