Los Angeles - Actor Ryan O'Neal and his son Redmond were both charged with drug possession after police discovered methamphetamines last month in a search of their California home.
Police found the restricted substances in the bedroom of the elder O'Neal, 67, who was nominated for an Oscar for the 1970 movie Love Story, and in the room used by his 23-year-old son, whose mother is the actress Farrah Fawcett. They conducted the search at the Malibu property under the terms of Redmond O'Neal's earlier probation for heroin and methamphetamine possession last year.
Although Wednesday's charges carry a maximum sentence of three years in prison, both suspects were likely to be placed in drug rehabilitation programmes.
The O'Neals are due in court on November 13 to enter pleas in the case. Ryan O'Neal's agent was not immediately available for comment.
The charges were the latest imbroglio for the renowned acting family. Daughter Tatum O'Neal, 44, who won an Oscar for her role opposite her father in the 1973 film Paper Moon, pleaded guilty in July to disorderly conduct stemming from a drug arrest in New York.
