MTV loved Russell Brand’s performance at VMAs so much that
they already invited him to be the show’s guest again next year.
“MTV told me they want me to do it again,” he told the Sun.
“Afterward they were really thrilled. There was a 20 percent increase in
viewers from last year’s show and, wow, isn’t life exciting.”
The stand-up comic managed to amuse, but also to anger some.
“American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks had enough of his jokes
about the Jonas Brothers’ promise rings and decided to speak up and defend the
teenage stars.
She got on stage and defended all the young stars who wear
rings promising to remain virgins until marriage, saying that wearing the rings
was not bad, “because not everybody, guy or girl, wants to be a slut.”
On Tuesday, Sparks spoke to Entertainment Weekly about her
comments, saying that the matter was something she felt strongly about. But she
expressed her regret that she might have offended some people.
“I wish I would've worded it differently — that somebody who
doesn't wear a promise ring isn't necessarily a slut — but I can't take it back
now. It was a split-second thing, and it came out kind of wrong. Still, I don't
regret it.”
The singer also insisted that she had nothing against
Russell Brand, with whom she shared some laughs backstage.
The Jonas Brothers also declared they were not upset by the
British comedian’s comments on their promise rings.
“For us it's cool to see that he recognizes we are gentlemen,”
Nick Jonas said Tuesday during an appearance on BBC Radio's Newsbeat program.
Moreover, they knew they had a lot of fans supporting them.
