More drama is added to the sad story of Heath Ledger’s untimely demise, as one of his uncles recently told an Australian paper that the actor may have fathered a love child as a teenager.
Haydn Ledger told Australia’s News Ltd that his nephew Heath Ledger may have fathered a love child when he was only 17-years-old. At that age, Heath reportedly dated a 25-year-old woman who was already involved in a relationship.
After her romance with Heath had ended, she discovered she was pregnant and later gave birth to a baby girl, the Sydney Morning Herald is reporting.
News Ltd newspapers quotes Haydn as saying “there was a real possibility” Heath was the father of the little girl. The Herald adds the woman in question would not comment when approached with the story but her husband asked for privacy and suggested that a DNA test would answer all questions.
Heath Ledger died in January at the age of 28, from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. He and former fiancée Michelle Williams have a two-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose.
Heath wrote his will before he and Michelle ever met and had their baby and left his entire estate to his parents and three sisters. When this surfaced in early March, the actor’s father, Kim, promptly responded by assuring all that Matilda and her mom would "be taken care of.”
“Matilda is our absolute priority and Michelle is an integral part of our family,” Kim said in a statement. “They will be taken care of and that's how Heath would want it to be.”
The actor’s rep seconded Kim Ledger’s statement at the time and emphasized that the outdated will does not mean Michelle and Matilda would not be provided for.
“The story is getting taken out of context and media is speculating that this means Matilda and Michelle will not be taken care of. I want to make it very clear nothing could be farther from the truth.”
Disagreements within the Ledger family have been escalating though, as Kim’s brothers argue that he is not capable of managing his son’s estate.
