Pop singer Britney Spears and her former husband Kevin Federline showed up together for the first time in their ugly custody battle for a hearing Friday.
A three-hour closed hearing in Britney and Federline’s ongoing custody feud ended with no decision last Friday. The former spouses are battling for custody rights over their two sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James.
Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon is expected to issue a ruling by Tuesday, after having heard extensive testimony, Mark Vincent Kaplan, Federline’s attorney, said last week.
The pop singer did not comment after the hearing but when an Us Weekly reporter asked her how things were going, she said: "Everything's great!” After half an hour though, Britney appeared troubled and somewhat lost and she snapped at another Us Weekly reporter. “Eat it! Snort it! [Expletive] it!” she exclaimed, coming very close to the reporter.
She finally left the courtroom looking upset and ignoring reporters’ questions. Federline’s attorney said of the hearing, “It was a good thing.” We have to wonder for whom and by the way Britney acted after the hearing, the single guess that can be issued is that surely not for her.
There is no surprise in this because the report made by the parenting coach wasn’t one of the best. A source said: “This report is really damaging to Britney's case. The judge will not look favorably upon it. She needs to work hard at being a mother and prove that she actually wants her children back.”
Attorney Sorrell Trope, who represents the singer, said “something has changed, but I can't say what.” He said Britney “was pleased,” but he declined further comment.
On the other hand, the pop star’s mother, Lynne Spears, has decided to write a book about the meaning of parenthood. Is this a way of telling her own daughter how to raise her children, we have to wonder.
One good thing did happen Friday for the 25-year-old mother of two, as one of her lawyers won a motion to bar videotaping of deposition testimony in the case.
