It’s official. Rosie O'Donnell is back on TV.
The eleven-time Emmy Award-winning television host has reportedly reached a deal to headline an NBC variety show on Nov. 26. The news was confirmed by officials of the television network.
Ms. O'Donnell signed a contract with NBC to host an hour-long variety show/backdoor pilot. The show will air in prime time on Thanksgiving eve. The show will be entitled “Rosie's Variety Hour” will feature celebrity guests, musical acts, comedy skits by O’Donnell and prize giveaways for the home and studio audiences.
“This is a dream come true for any performer," O'Donnell said in a statement. "Old time variety, live from New York with a nod to Ed Sullivan, Carol Burnett and memories of Sonny and Cher.”
The two parties only agreed for a one-off special for now. But if the variety show has success and the audience is big enough, it will surely be turned into a regular series.
Ms. O’Donnell, who is also a successful stand-up comedian, actress and author, will also be the executive producer of the potentially expanding show.
Rosie O’Donnell started her stand-up comedy career as a teen and had her first breakthrough on the talent show “Star Search.” In 1996, she began hosting “The Rosie O'Donnell Show,” a TV show which won her multiple Emmy awards.
