Rolling the Stone: Sex and the City Has London World Premiere

The much awaited, discussed and dissected “Sex and the City” movie premiered here on planet Earth Monday, May 12, at the Odeon Leicester Square in London, with premieres around the world to unfold throughout the month.

A fashionable stone it is that the four ladies of the “Sex and the City” franchise have begun rolling around the globe. The film made its debut Monday in London and Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte gracefully walked the red carpet fittingly adorned with glamorous outfits.

It was Sarah Jessica Parker who stole the show, knowingly I would say, by bearing a slightly eccentric head ornament: a Philip Treacy hat in light greenish hues, complete with flowers, insects and feathers.

The clothes worn by the characters on the hit HBO series have always been a point of fascination for fans and the film was not to be an exception, with the four leading ladies reportedly changing dozens of outfits throughout filming.

Parker wore a pale green dress by Alexander McQueen, reports People magazine, while Cattrall wore a red Vivienne Westwood dress, Nixon appeared in a floor length black pleated Calvin Klein gown and Davis wore a vintage crimson dress.

Nixon explained that the London premiere was just a small step towards the grand event that the New York premiere is set to be. “We’re having a kind of smallish premiere here (and) we’re having a smallish premiere in Berlin. We're building to the New York premiere which is enormous and happens just before the film opens worldwide,” she told the Associated Press.

The four fashionable and knowledgeable friends of the series are all based in New York City and share a love for the city, which was always presented lovingly during the series’ ten-years.

The film opens May 30 in the United States.

Few details were released about the film’s plot before its launch. What is known is that it takes off from where the TV series ended. Chris Noth returns as Carrie’s love interest Mr. Big, while Candice Bergen portrays Carrie’s boss, editor Enid Frick at Vogue. Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson plays Carrie’s assistant Louise.
