Roger Waters' Great Pig In The Sky

Wrapping up the final night at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Sunday, former Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters unleashed a giant inflated pig into the night sky, in support of U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The legendary musician, who was the third headliner of the three-day music festival, took the stage Sunday night after Prince and Jack Johnson's performances. His nearly three-hour concert was divided in two, the first part featuring solo and early Pink Floyd material, while the second half included a full performance of the "Dark Side of the Moon" as well as songs from Pink Floyd's 1979's "The Wall," while old photographs of Pink Floyd were projected on the screen behind Waters and his new band.

Ever since 1977 when the band released its album called "Animals," 64-year-old Waters made a habit of releasing giant inflatable pigs during the band's live performances. This time, the pig, which was released into the air before the 20-minute break between sets, delivered a strong political statement, "Don't be led to the slaughter," which was written on its side.

As the pig rose higher into the sky and Waters' first performance drew to a close, flame bursts exploded on the sides of the stage, "That's my pig," exclaimed Waters, a well-documented supporter of the democratic candidate who continued to make his political feelings known over recent weeks, at one point even describing Obama's main rival, Hillary Clinton, as "ghastly."

Earlier in the third day of the Coachella Festival, actor Sean Penn also made a political statement, albeit without the aid of a giant inflatable farm animal. He stopped by to speak twice, urging the mostly young crowd to be more politically active and join him on a cross-country bus trip leaving Monday for New Orleans.
