Hong Kong - Veteran rock star Rod Stewart proved he is wearing well at 64 by stocking up on tight-fitting trousers and stage clothes while in Hong Kong, a celebrity tailor said Saturday.

The Scottish singer had several fitted suits and shirts made by Manu Melwani, known as Sam the Tailor, while he was in Hong Kong March 7 for a concert, Melwani said.

"He is very healthy and in excellent shape," said Melwani, whose previous celebrity customers have included former US president Bill Clinton, former British prime minister Tony Blair, Britain's Prince Charles and opera giant Luciano Pavarotti.

"The trousers I made for him were rather tight-fitting at his request, but they looked good on him," the tailor said.

"Mr Stewart is a very well-dressed man for a Scot," Melwani said. "He was very pleased with the clothes we made for him, and I think he will use them on his future tour dates."

A team of 55 tailors worked though the night to complete an order for Stewart and his band in time for their departure March 8 from Hong Kong after a sold-out concert.

Stewart - whose new greatest hits album includes the songs You Wear It Well, Hot Legs and Do Ya Thing I'm Sexy - performs in Japan Saturday night before a string of European dates in May.
