Robin Williams to Undergo Heart Surgery, Cancels Shows

Robin Williams is in need of heart surgery and is required to cancel the rest of his one-man comedy show tour, entitled “Weapons of Self-Destruction,” his publicist announced on Thursday.

The 57-year-old actor needs an aortic valve replacement, consistent with information included in a news release issued by his publicist, Mara Buxbaum. Robin Williams’ reps would not disclose further details on the actor’s condition.

“I’m so touched by everyone’s support and well wishes,” Robin Williams explains in the statement. “This tour has been amazing fun and I can’t wait to get back out on the road after a little tune-up.”

The artist was already in Florida when he postponed four shows in the state earlier this week following symptoms such as shortness of breath.
Former first lady Barbara Bush, 83, was recovering well from the aortic valve surgery she has undergone, her doctors said.

Since last fall, Robin Williams had been on the sold-out, 80-city tour, which is believed to pick up where it left off later this year, the actor’s publicist said. Tickets are expected to be honored as soon as the new dates are scheduled, or people can make contact with their spot of purchase in order to obtain refunds.

The Academy Award-winning actor saw his breakthrough as a standup comedian in the 1970s, as his energetic conduct led him to obtain a guest spot on “Happy Days” as Mork from Ork and subsequently the starring part on “Mork & Mindy.”

Robin Williams has appeared in numerous feature films, which included both comedies and dramas. He was honored with an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the 1997 film “Good Will Hunting.” Other distinguished productions include “Dead Poets Society,” “Hook,” as well as “Mrs. Doubtfire.”
