Robert Plant Sans Led Zeppelin Announces Tour Dates

Seeing Led Zeppelin rocking in London earlier this week, fans of the British rock group must’ve really put their hopes up for a full-blown reunion tour, but singer Robert Plant just announced he will be going on tour next year, only it won’t be with his band mates, it will be with country star Alison Krauss.

The duo, who in October released the critically acclaimed album "Raising Sand" which took the second place in the US Billboard charts, are set to start performing around Europe in May 2008, and carry on across the US in the summer.

The European tour kicks off on May 5 in Birmingham, England and will include stops in major venues like Paris, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Brussells, and Oslo. The trek is slated to wrap May 22 in London.

Although no US dates have been confirmed, Plant and Krauss are rumored to be playing at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee in June.

Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham (son of drummer John Bonham, who died in 1980) performed their first concert in 19 years in London at the 02 Arena on Monday in the honor of Ahmet Ertegun, who died last year.

While Page repeatedly expressed his willingness to reform the band for a tour, strengthening fans’ hopes, Plant never seemed keen to join such a project.

"The whole idea of being on a cavalcade of merciless repetition is not what it's all about," he told London's Sunday Times before the O2 show.

According to Mediabase, a firm that tracks numbers for more than 1,800 radio stations in the U.S. and Canada, Led Zeppelin’s successful comeback propelled them to a sizeable increase in radio airplay. Over a two-week period, the band saw a 15.1 percent rise in airplay, with 4,139 spins recorded on Monday and Tuesday of this week, up from 3,514 on Monday and Tuesday of the week before.
