Robert De Niro And Al Pacino Together Again In “Righteous Kill”

As you may already know, “Righteous Kill” is the latest movie starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. Their fans gathered Wednesday night to see and greet the two at the premiere of their latest movie together.

De Niro and Pacino play Turk, respectively Rooster, veteran New York Police Department detectives who have it goin’ on. Therefore the movie is a so-called cop thriller movie, directed by Jon Avnet and produced by Overture Films.

Just as the movie begins, Robert De Niro's Turk is seen on a security video, telling us he had been a cop for 30 years, and that he had killed 14 people. And during the rest of the movie the facts that lead to this testimony begin to unfold. One doesn’t know what to think of Turk’s morality and duty. Turk and Rooster are actually partners in the NYPD Homicide Division. They have 30 years of service investigating murders, and before they return to more domestic activities they plan to solve a last case together. And this is when a serial killer comes into our story.

He himself isn’t an ordinary one as he is targeting criminals who have fallen through the cracks of the judicial system and got away with rape, murder, and other heinous crimes. The fact is that he only wants to help the police and thinks of himself as a defender of justice. Turk and Rooster have to put an end to this man’s “generosity.” At a point in the development of the movie one may think that Turk is the haunted criminal, due to a certain videotape. But the flashbacks prove that along with Rooster by his side he was just a devoted and honest cop.

We also have a pair of younger cops, John Leguizamo and Donnie Wahlberg who team up with them, but are convinced that the murderer is among their fellow cops. The script was written by Russell Gewirtz who is also responsible for "Inside Man."

But still the two grand actors are the only reason why someone should see this film. They haven’t lost their charm and their unique acting qualities.

Turk and Rooster (very suggestive names they have) come across a lot of interesting folks throughout their investigation: a coke-loving lawyer, well played by Trilby Glover; a grieving mom played by Melissa Leo in a devastating three-minute cameo, and a drug lord played by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, whose performance is stiff and totally inanimate.

Nevertheless the film lies in De Niro and Pacino’s hands but it is no "The Godfather: Part II." The Oscar winners bring back the qualities that made them great but still something is missing. It’s up to each and every one of the ones who will go see it to figure that out for themselves. Maybe it was just the writer who strived to get us to think there is much more behind what we are already being shown.
