America’s
greatest daredevil alive, Robbie Knievel, successfully jumped 24 delivery
trucks beating his fathers’ record. Evel Knievel, the late stunt man and
Robbie’s father, made a jump over 14 greyhound busses in 1975 setting a record
for Kings Island,
an amusement park near Cincinnati,
Ohio.
Robbie said that in order to make the more than 200 feet
jump, he would have to ride with 95 miles per hour at the moment of takeoff. To
do so, a ramp three story high has been built. Robbie climbed it on his bike
and after a few moments of concentration, he made the jump that put him in Kings Island’s
history. The crowd cheered all through the few seconds the jump lasted and “Kaptain”
Robie Knievel gave it the thumbs up after touching down.
The stunt man dedicated the jump to his father and all the
veterans and people serving in the army. His father, Evel Knievel, had died
last year of pulmonary fibrosis, at the age of 69. This jump is one in a series
dedicated to his father. Robbie has already successfully performed every jump
his father made, with the exception of the Wembley jump and the Snake River Canyon jump, which his father had
failed.
Robbie made some other impressive jumps in the past. In 1989
he jumped over the fountain at Caesar’s Palace, but he is most famous for the
building to building jump and the jump over the Great Canyon.
By performing this stunt, Robbie also broke his previous record for trucks,
which was 19.
