A fire exchange on Monday between Riverside County sheriff's deputies and suspects who opened fire on guards at the entrance to a San Jacinto Indian reservation ended whit two suspects being killed, authorities said.
The incident occurred at about 6:20 p.m. That was the exact hour when the guards at the entrance of the Soboba Indian reservation called the sheriff's dispatchers and reported that they were under fire.
The sheriff’s helicopter and SWAT team as well were there in no time. The suspects shot at them to, but this time they were outnumbered, outgunned and consequently out of the game.
Authorities first said a guard of the Indian reservation had been wounded in the initial fire exchange, but later, Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez corrected the report and said that investigators found out that the guards were actually unhurt.
The gun battle lasted for about an hour at the Indian reservation east of the Soboba Casino.
During that stretch of time, the sheriff’s deputies were fired upon repeatedly.
The suspects fired at least nine shots at the sheriff’s helicopter, the report said. The sheriff’s deputies and the SWAT team members fired back and the suspects were later pronounced dead.
