Ringo Starr Celebrates Peaceful Birthday in Chicago

Beatle superstar Ringo Starr celebrated his 68th birthday Monday, July 7, in Chicago, sharing peace, love and cupcakes with some 300 fans who gathered to sing him Happy Birthday at the Hard Rock Hotel.

Ringo Starr was a true hippie purveyor of the message Peace & Love on Monday, as he waited for the clock to strike 12 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago in order to celebrate his birthday wisely.

Showing peace signs all around with his hands in the air, the veteran rocker yelled, “Twelve o’clock — peace and love!” and grinned happily.

He proceeded to pass out white-iced cupcakes to the fans gathered for the occasion, estimated by the Chicago Tribune at 300.

Starr was fully pleased with the event, exclaiming, “What a great birthday gift!”

“If you could pan around, you could see Chicago is full of peace and lovers.”

The Hard Rock had long planned to celebrate Ringo Starr’s birthday, after learning from a TV interview that the best anniversary he could think of this year was to have people around the world flash the peace sign at noon July 7, reports the Tribune, quoting hotel spokeswoman Kathleen Henson.

Ringo Starr is in Chicago touring with his band, the All Star Band. The hotel invited him over to see his dream come true and even took care of the cupcake situation, having the Perfect Peace Cafe and Bakery in Chicago’s Gresham neighborhood bake about 300 miniature cupcakes and a sheet cake bearing the Hard Rock logo, adds the Tribune.

Ringo Starr was joined in his celebration by his wife of 27 years, Barbara Bach. The two met on the set of the 1980 comedy “Caveman” and married a year later. Bach is best known as the Bond Girl of “The Spy Who Loved Me.”

Ringo Starr and his band play a concert at Northerly Island on Sunday.
