Los Angeles - Police have agreed to release the jewels that Rihanna was wearing when she was allegedly attacked by Chris Brown earlier this year, much to the relief of the designers who had lent them to her for this year's Grammys.

The baubles, earings and three rings, had been held as evidence in the case but Rihanna's lawyer Donald Etra said that police have now agreed to photograph the 1.4-million-dollar baubles and return them to the 21-year-old star.

The agreement came after Etra filed a court motion requesting the return of the jewels. At the same hearing Wednesday, Brown's lawyer Mark Geragos criticized police for allegedly leaking photos of a battered Rihanna after the attack. He told the court he wants access to documents of the internal police investigation of the leak, claiming that they could show "misconduct or bias" against his client.

Brown, 19, has pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault and a charge of making criminal threats. A preliminary hearing is expected next month.
