R&B singer Rihanna has canceled a concert in Jakarta, which had previously been scheduled for this Thursday, the show’s organizers have informed.
Tour promoter Showmaster announced that Rihanna had bowed out of the concert by virtue of an assault involving her boyfriend, R&B star Chris Brown.
Brown, 19, was arrested on Sunday and charged with making criminal threats, while he was released from police custody on $50,000 bail.
This is not the first time that Rihanna has canceled a concert in Indonesia’s capital, since in November last year, the singer pulled out of a show after the Australian government had issued a traveling warning after three men convicted of the 2002 Bali bombings had been executed.
Tony Goldring of the William Morris Agency said that Rihanna’s fans were traumatized by this second postponement, adding that the agency had lost large amounts of money on production and promotional materials for the concert.
For the time being, prosecutors have announced that they needed more evidence from the police so as to press charges against Chris Brown.
The authorities have also refused to reveal the name of the woman involved in the incident, Brown’s assault victim, although many media outlets including the Los Angeles Times have said that it had been his girlfriend Rihanna.
The singer’s publicist has not confirmed or denied whether Rihanna had been the victim, yet she released a statement saying that Rihanna was fine and thanking everybody for their concern and support.
According to the police, Brown and an unidentified woman were involved in an argument that took place in a parked car in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles on Sunday at approximately 12.30 a.m.
