Latin singer Ricky Martin is all happy smiles in the
upcoming issue of People magazine, as he shows his 4-month-old twin sons
Valentino and Matteo, born to a surrogate mother.
Valentino and Matteo Martin were born in early August via
gestational surrogacy. A rep for the 36-year-old announced their birth in a
statement when they were already a few weeks old and said the babies were
healthy while Martin was already on full-time daddy duty.
The rep also revealed the Puerto Rican artist would retreat
from showbiz for a while so he could focus his undivided attention on his
newborn sons.
Four months later, Martin is ready to talk about the joys of
fatherhood. He makes use of all the possible superlatives to describe to People
magazine how happy he is, how “amazing” it is to be a father and how having
children has become “the most spiritual moment in my life.”
As to his choice of having the babies via surrogacy, he says
this was “an intriguing and faster option” than adoption. He is raising the
children alone, without the help of a nanny (or a mother), feeding them,
changing diapers, giving baths and putting them to bed. He does have the help
of a personal assistant, who takers care of him while he takes care of the
babies.
As to the babies’ personalities, Martin says Valentino is
the calmer, more serene of the twins, which is why he calls him “Mr. Peace and
Love,” while Matteo is the more active one.
Asked about his child-rearing philosophy, Martin said he
adores reading books to his sons, telling them stories and playing music for
them and that he wishes to provide them with information and appreciation for
honesty and love, self-esteem and acceptance.
