Remember the 80’s, the time of catchy songs, glam rock and men with colorful, big hair and tight pants? It seems that the 80’s are not completely forgotten as the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade replaced the characters from the Cartoon Network hit series, “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends,” with Rick Astley himself, singing and dancing to his signature tunes, “Never Gonna Give You Up” and “Best Friend.”
It was a very funny switch as the song “Never Gonna Give You Up” has been massively used on the Internet for different pranks or moments that cause surprise. The entire experience was fresh and surprisingly entertaining, showing that nothing compares to a good, old 80’s pop hit.
The Cartoon Network mascots started singing Astley’s hits, causing a hilarious visual experience which was only topped by the actual appearance of the singer dancing and singing on his songs. There is just something about these songs that commands one to start moving and to sing along.
Maybe it is nostalgia or just the very catchy rhythm and lyrics; the fact is that the 80’s undoubtedly equal soft rock and hit pop songs. Rick Astley is a British singer, songwriter and musician, best known for his hit songs “Never Gonna Give You Up” or “Best Friend.”
Astley’s records have sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, making the singer a real music star and an icon for many generations dancing and singing along to his catchy songs. Recently, Rick Astley’s songs have been used in different Internet jokes, causing the success of the catchphrase “rickrolled.”
