Reverse-Psychology Viral – Will It Work?

America seems torn between two choices: Obama or McCain. McCain or Obama. Obama’s lack of experience is countered by his VP’s – Joe Biden – years of experience, while McCain’s VP – Sarah Palin – has left the U.S. speechless with her controversial statement and proof of lack of foreign affairs knowledge.

Voters have to register to vote until the 4th of October, and about 30 celebrities have made a non-motivational video, encouraging their fellow countrymen not to vote. Among the celebrities are Leonardo DiCaprio, Dustin Hoffman, Ellen DeGeneres, Forest Whitaker, Jonah Hill, Benicio Del Toro and many more Hollywood and TV stars and other celebrities.

The condescending “advice” and border-line insults offered by the celebrities had the initial purpose of serving as a “reverse psychology” social action. And according to official (and mostly unofficial) studies, reverse psychology tends to function almost 100% of the time.

For those doubting the activist goals of this celebrity viral, the makers decided to show a link at the bottom of the screen a few minutes into the video. The link leads to a registration map, a social masterpiece of Internet giant Google.

The video subconsciously eggs you on to register and forward the video’s link to five of your friends, ensuring then viral feats of the video (as if 30 celebrities weren’t enough) and maybe even a massive movement of voters.

Just as the two candidates are almost complete opposites (and they don’t seem to be attracted to each other on any level), opinions on his video are just as different: some consider it brilliant, non-conformist, attractive, innovative and bound to work. Others don’t have any words of praise for the viral – they consider it down-right stupid.
