The Church of England disapproves the nomination of Insomniac Games’ Resistance: Fall of Man at this year’s BAFTA and calls the nomination a “disgrace”.
Since the launch of R:FoM back in 2006, The Church of England has repeatedly voiced its dissatisfaction with the “illegal” use of interior shots of Manchester Cathedral in the game, which apparently sends “the wrong signals” to the young audience.
The drop that filled the glass was the recent nomination of Resistance to BAFTA 2007 (British Academy of Film and Television Arts), which agitated (holy) spirits again. Along with Dr Kawashima's Brain Training, FIFA 07, Football Manager 2007, Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and Wii Play, Insomniac’s first person shooter is on the shortlist of the top-selling game on each platform.
During an interview with BBC News, the Very Rev Rogers Govender said: "It is a disgrace that Resistance: Fall of Man has been shortlisted. Sony has admitted that they did not have permission to film or use Manchester Cathedral in their computer game. BAFTA should not be seen condoning such behaviour unless they are saying it is acceptable for producers to walk into historic buildings and film interiors - ignoring contracts, rights and liability."
This year's Awards will take place on Tuesday 23 October at Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park.
